iTunes: private sharing doesn't work - what to do?
If private sharing doesn't work in iTunes, the error can be in both iTunes and your network. We'll show you how to solve the problem and reconnect your Apple devices.
iTunes, Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad: private sharing does not work
For private sharing to work, you must sign in with the same Apple ID on all devices. If you have any problems, you should first log out of each device and log in again:
- PC / Mac: Start iTunes and select "Home Sharing" under "File" or "File". Click the "Disable private sharing" option here. Restart your PC or Mac completely and then select the "Enable private sharing" option in iTunes.
- iPhone / iPad: Open the Settings app and select the category "Music". Tap Private Sharing at the bottom, then tap Sign Out. Restart the iOS device completely and log in again.
- Apple TV: Open the "Settings" and under the category "Computer" select the option "Disable private sharing". Then disconnect the device from the power supply for a few seconds and reactivate private sharing in the same menu.
Home sharing doesn't work in iTunes - it can help
- Router: If the problem is still not solved, there may be an error in the network. Unplug your router for a few seconds and then restart it.
- VPN: Also make sure that none of the devices use a VPN connection. In addition, you should only use a router and no guest access.
- Mac: If you are using a Mac, open the system settings and select the "Firewall" under the "Security" category. If necessary, deactivate the options "Block all incoming connections" and "Only allow necessary services".
- Windows: If you are using a Windows computer, make sure that TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353 are enabled. This practical tip shows you how to set up approvals.
