Sync shortcuts via iCloud - so it'll work
We explain how you can use iCloud to sync shortcuts across all your iOS and OS X devices.
Sync shortcuts via iCloud
In iOS and OS X, you can enter frequently recurring text phrases and phrases with a shortcut. This not only effectively saves you time, it can also prevent potential spelling errors. You can find out how to synchronize the shortcuts via iCloud on Mac, iPad and iPhone in these step-by-step instructions.
- Keep in mind that you can also view, edit, and add shortcuts stored on your iPhone or iPad on Mac.
Sync iCloud shortcuts on Mac
- Open the system settings and then "Keyboard".
- "Text" in the top menu bar gives you direct access to your own shortcuts.
- There you can view and edit your shortcuts and add new commands at any time. To do this, enter a shortcut you have selected in the "Replace" line and a phrase or a term in the "With" line.
- For example, enter the abbreviation "MfG" for the first line and the greeting "Kind regards" for the second line. Now the greeting "With kind regards" is written out every time you enter "MfG" in a text field.
Sync shortcuts with iPad and iPhone
- Go to "iCloud" in the settings and activate the "Documents & data" option. This allows you to synchronize the shortcuts with your mobile device.
- With your iPad or iPhone, select "General" in the settings and then "Keyboard".
- Under "Shortcuts" you can view and edit the shortcuts on your mobile device, just like on the Mac. These should now always be synchronized automatically.
