Linux Fedora: Install nVidia drivers - how it works
With a few commands you have installed the nVidia driver under Linux Fedora. In this practical tip, we will show you how it works and what you have to watch out for.
Linux Fedora: Install nVidia drivers - how it works
First download the correct version of the nVidea driver.
- First of all you have to deactivate the Nouveau free nvidia driver. You can do this with the command "# dracut --omit-drivers nouveau / boot / initramfs - $ (uname -r) .img $ (uname -r) --force".
- Next, you need to temporarily disable the X server. To prevent it from starting after the restart, enter the command "# Deactivate systemctl gdm".
- Now it is time to install the kernel header and compiler with the command "Yum install kernel-devel - $ (uname -r) gcc".
- After the reboot GUI, use the terminal screen and start NVIDIA Installer with "# Bash NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-346.35.run". Of course you have to use your driver version here.
- The installer not only asks whether you agree to the "Terms & Conditions". If the question "Would you like to run the nvidia-xconfig utility?" Appears, answer "Yes". This instructs the NVIDIA installer to generate a new xorg.conf configuration file.
- Still logged in as root, you must reactivate the X server with "# Systemctl gdm" before restarting.
- Now you can initiate the restart with "# Restart".
- Then start the nvVdia settings with "$ Nvidia settings".
