Set up Live Email - Here's how
If you don't want to spend money on Microsoft Outlook to check emails, you can use the free alternative Windows Live Mail. We will show you how to set up your existing email account there.
Set up an email account in Windows Live Mail
- If you haven't already, download Windows Live Mail 2012 and follow the installation instructions.
- Start Windows Live Mail. After that, the setup wizard normally opens automatically. If this does not happen, click on "Accounts" above and then on "Email".
- Enter your email address and password. You can have this saved if you wish so that you do not have to enter it again each time you start it. Finally enter the name under which you want to send emails and click on "Next".
- If you have a Microsoft account or, for example, a web.de account, this completes the setup. If you are asked to enter data again on the next page, follow the next steps.
- Fill in the following fields with the respective information (see picture). Select "POP" as the server type. You can find out the server address from your provider. Put the check mark underneath. Select your email address as the login user name. On the right side, select "smtp.XXX.de" as the server address. XXX stands for the name of your provider. Place the two ticks below, click on "Next" and then on "Finish".
