Mail notification at system or program start - how it works
This practical tip explains how you can receive an automatic mail notification each time you start a system or program.
Send information mail automatically when the system or program starts
You can set up the mail notification using the system's "Task Scheduler". In addition, you need the very old free tool "Blat". The software may be blocked by your virus scanner because it can also be misused for the unnoticed sending of e-mails. In this case you have to release "Blat" in your antivirus.
- Open the »Task planning« via the start menu and select the command »Action | Create Task «.
- In the "General" tab, change the security option to "Run independently of user login" and enter a name. Then switch to the "Trigger" tab and click on "New".
- Change the setting for "Start task" to "At start". For a more specific control, however, select the setting »On an event«, which you can then specify more precisely.
- Then confirm with »OK« and switch to the »Actions« tab.
- There you click on "New" again and select the "Action".
- Use »Start program« and add the complete command call with path. It could look something like this: »c: \ tools \ blat.exe -to -subject message -body computer start -server smtpmail.t-online.de -f | u -pw secret".
- With the above parameters, adjust the recipient, subject and text. The correct outgoing mail server at »-server«, the sender address at »-f« and the access data for sending mail at »-u« and »-pw« are also important. How and with what information this works depends on the respective mail provider.
- As a trial, you can also select "Send e-mail" as an action and try out whether the delivery works in this way.
Use a mail address as the recipient, which you can query on the go. This method can also be used to monitor a server, the function of which you should check after a reported restart, for example.
