Use Robocopy under Windows 7 - how it works
The "Robocopy" tool is hidden in Windows 7. With this you can copy files or entire directories. This works even faster than with the standard Windows copy tool. This practical tip shows you how you can use "Robocopy".
Execute "Robocopy" from the command line
Windows has cleverly hidden the tool in the command prompt.
- Open the "Command Prompt" as an administrator by right-clicking on the command prompt and selecting "Run as administrator".
- Then enter "robocopy" and confirm with [Enter].
- The standard formula for Robocopy commands is: "robocopy source target / action". Instead of "Source" enter the exact source directory (e.g. C: \ Program Files). For "Target" insert the exact target directory. The desired command follows the slash character (/).
- You can get an overview of the commands by entering "ROBOCOPY /?" enter.
