VirtualBox: Add a second hard drive - how it works
If you use Oracle's Virtualbox and your hard disk space is not sufficient, you can add a second hard disk. In our step-by-step instructions, we will show you exactly how this works.
Set up a second hard drive - you have to do that
- First, create a new virtual machine in Oracle's Virtualbox.
- Mark your virtual machine and select the "Change" button at the top.
- Click on the "Mass Storage" menu on the left. Here you can see a list of all the storage of your virtual machine.
- To add a new hard drive, click on the green "+" with the small hard drive.
- Now you have to set it up and name it. Once the hard drive has been set up, you must initialize it.
- Afterwards the hard disk has to be formatted. Right-click on the new hard drive in "Computer Management" and select "Format".
Step 2: Initialize and format the hard disk
- In your virtual machine, go to "Computer Management" under "Management".
- Right-click on the new hard drive and select "Initialize".
- Then the hard disk has to be formatted: Right-click on the new hard disk in "Computer Management" and select "Format".
In another article we will show you how to subsequently enlarge your hard disk in the VirtualBox.
