What are indie games? Easily explained
The indie games are also part of the large selection of video game genres. In this practical tip we explain what these indie games are and how you differentiate yourself from other genres.
- The name "Indie Games (Independent Games)" comes from the English and means "independent games".
- These games are independent of a sponsor, i.e. a publisher who finances the development of the games. This often means that the games are cheaper for you as a player. The prices for indie games usually fluctuate between 5 and 25 euros.
- So it is mostly about games that are developed with comparatively little money. Therefore, you will often find the designation of indie games as "low-budget games". The development team is also very limited or only exists as individuals.
- Indie games are not characterized by a high budget, but by the fact that you have an unconventional graphic style or that stand out due to innovative playful elements.
- Games of this genre are therefore mostly oriented towards implementing fresh ideas, instead of providing established brands with a new part over and over again.
- Some prominent representatives of the genre are Minecraft or Slender: The Eight Pages.
The opposite of indie games are the AAA titles. We will explain what is behind this term in the next practical tip.
