WD My Cloud: Set up USB backup
To ensure that no important data is lost in the event of a total failure of your WD My Cloud, it is advisable to set up a USB backup. We'll show you how.
Set up USB backup on the My Cloud - that's how it's done
- First insert a hard drive into the USB port. It may take some time for the My Cloud to use it.
- Open the web interface of your WD My Cloud in the browser and log in.
- Click "Backups" in the gray bar at the top and click "USB Backups" on the left.
- Click on the »Create order« button and enter the details of your backup. It is important that you select "NAS to USB" at the »Direction« point for a backup of the My Cloud. If you want to backup your hard disk, you must click "USB to NAS".
- Then click "Create" to save the job. Now your My Cloud is performing the backup.
USB backup on WD My Cloud - helpful tips
- If you want to connect multiple hard drives to the My Cloud, you can use a USB hub.
- If you want to make regular backups, it is recommended to set the "Start automatically when connected" option to "On".
- Eject your hard drive before unplugging it. Otherwise data may be lost.
