WebP files: How to open the Internet pictures
You can also open files with the "webP" extension in Windows like normal images. We'll show you where to find the right tools to help Windows.
Photos from the Internet: Open WebP images in Windows
WebP, or the associated video format WebM, is Google's standard image format on the Internet. With the same image quality, it compresses better than the outdated PNG or JPG formats:
- If you tend to come into little contact with this file format and use Chrome or Opera anyway, you can open the relevant image at any time: Simply drag and drop the file into the browser window.
- If you often work with the codec, you can also install the WebP codec for Windows from the Google Developers website.
- "IrfanView" also supports the codec in the current free version (4.38) if you have installed the corresponding plugin.

Although WebP is more advanced, the old image formats are far from dead. On the next page we will explain exactly where the difference between JPG and PNG lies.
