Windows 8: Deactivate IPv6 - how it works
Although IPv6 has been around for some time, some firewalls do not support it. In Windows 8, you can disable it to rule out possible security holes. We show you how to do this.
Disable IPv6 in Windows 8
As in previous versions of Windows, you can set the network protocol in Windows 8 in the Control Panel:
- To do this, click on the Windows symbol at the bottom left and start the "Control Panel".
- In the "Network and Internet" category, click on "Network and Sharing Center".
- There, select the entry "Change adapter settings" in the left column.
- Here you select the network connection for which you want to deactivate the IPv6 protocol. To do this, right-click on the entry and then on "Properties".
- Remove the tick in front of "Internet Protocol, Version 6 (TCP / IPv6)" and confirm the changes with "OK".
