WordPress - how to create a subpage
In this practical tip you will learn how to create a subpage in WordPress and add it to a parent page.
WordPress: Create subpages in the dashboard
Sub-pages are recommended for a user-friendly structure of the content on your WordPress blog. These are hierarchically and thematically subordinate to a "parent page".
- Sub-pages give your visitors a better overview and can be created by you in the dashboard menu.
- In WordPress you can subordinate already created pages or put a new page directly under the "parent page" when setting it up.
Assign WordPress subpage in the page settings
- First log in to your weblog with your access data. Then go to the user interface of your WordPress blog with a click of the mouse on the "My website" button.
- Now select the option "Pages" in the menu under "Publish".
- If you now want to create a new subpage, click the smaller "Add" button next to "Pages" and give the new page a title and description.
- Alternatively, you can subordinate an existing page to another "parent page". To do this, select the one you want from all the existing pages.
- You will now find the "Page Settings" on the right side of the screen. Click here with the left mouse button under "Child page" on the option "(No child page)", so that an overview of all your "parent pages" appears.
- In a final step, select the "parent page" to which the current page is to be attached and confirm your selection by clicking on the "Publish to [your blog name]" or "Refresh" button.
- Then a pop-up appears, which redirects you to the bottom. You can of course edit the hierarchy of your pages again at any time.
If you run a commercial weblog, a "parent page" is essential for the imprint. In another practical tip, we explain how to set up a WordPress imprint for your weblog and which general conditions you should consider.
