With Alexa, you can conveniently control your sockets with a voice command. We show you which models are compatible and how to set up the sockets.
Control sockets with Alexa: Compatible models
- There are both smart WiFi sockets that connect directly to your WiFi, as well as models that are part of a complete system. These system sockets are not connected directly to the router, but via an Osram gateway or a Philips Hue Bridge. A cheap compatible model is the Osram Lightify Plug for around 37 euros.
- If you do not use a gateway or bridge, make sure when purchasing that the sockets are not specifically designed for this. The following sockets connect directly to your WLAN: The TP-Link HS110 is currently available for around 35 euros. You can get the D-Link DSP-W215 and the devolo Home Control for around 40 euros. The also popular Belkin WeMo Switch costs around 47 euros.
Instructions: Control sockets with Alexa
First, you need to set up the outlet without Alexa. The two systems are then connected to each other.
- There is an app for every smart socket. Download the respective app and set up the socket.
- If the socket is connected to your WLAN, start the Alexa app on your smartphone.
- Open the menu in the top left and select the category "Skills".
- Enter the manufacturer of your smart socket in the search and install the associated skill.
- Now switch to "Smart Home" in the menu and select your "Devices" there.
- Refresh the list of results and wait for the outlet to appear.
- With the command "Alexa, switch X on / off" you can now control the socket by voice command. For the placeholder "X", use the name you gave the socket.
- Tip: Under certain circumstances, you can also control your socket via an Alexa routine. However, not all devices are currently capable of this.
