You should always check in advance whether an Amazon email is fake. Fraudsters are increasingly trying to get your credentials through nasty phishing loops. Read here how you can recognize a fake email and what you can do if you have already released your data.
Fake: Email from Amazon could be phishing
When attempting phishing, cyber criminals pretend to receive an email from a major online service such as Amazon. In the fake email you want to get your private data like this:
- In a fake email from Amazon, you will usually be prompted to register with your data using a link.
- If you receive such an email, you should under no circumstances click on the links it contains.
- Instead, go to the Amazon website manually in the browser. This is the only way to be sure that you will not be redirected to a fake website.
- You will also find all communication between Amazon and you on Amazon under "My Account> Messege Center". Here you can check whether the suspicious email comes from Amazon.
User name and password already entered: You can do that now
If you suspect that you have already accidentally given your login data to Amazon in the wrong hands, quick action is required:
- Log in to Amazon immediately and change your password. If it's not too late, your password and email address have not been changed by the hacker.
- Also activate two-factor identification. In addition to your login data, you also need your mobile phone to log in.
- Contact Amazon customer service and explain the problem.
- Block all payment methods that you use on Amazon. So think of your bank account, credit card and PayPal.
