The new night mode is currently only available in the Android N beta. We explain in another article how to install them. As soon as the final version appears, you can update your Android device as usual to use the new feature. Then activate night mode as follows:
- Swipe your finger twice from the status bar to the center of the screen.
- In the notification center, press and hold the gear icon at the top until it starts rotating. A message appears that the "System UI Tuner" is now available.
- Then, in the notification center, tap "Edit" in the lower right corner.
- Drag the night mode icon from the lower part with the eyedropper into your notification center and save the settings using the arrow in the top left.
- Then tap on the tile you just added and activate night mode.
Android N: Set up night mode perfectly
You can even personalize the night mode a little in the system settings. To do this, press and hold the night mode tile in the notification center until the settings app opens. You then have several options:
- With the first entry "Activate automatically" you can have night mode start automatically - depending on the time of day or your current location.
- Below you can choose whether the color tone should also be adjusted in addition to the brightness of the display. If you activate the latter, the display appears reddish, which should be easier on the eyes in darker environments.
