If you want Spotify to play your playlist on your HomePod, you have to take a small detour. We show you how it works in this practical tip.
Spotify: Use HomePod via AirPlay
You can only play Apple-owned music on the HomePod directly via Siri, for example songs from iTunes Match, Apple Music or songs that you bought via iTunes.
- If you want to play Spotify on the HomePod, this is only possible via AirPlay. So you need a device that is AirPlay ready. This applies, for example, to an iPhone.
- For the connection to work, your HomePod and your iPhone must be in the same WiFi. In addition, the free Spotify app must be installed on the iPhone.
- If these requirements are met, open the Spotify app on your smartphone and start the track you want to play on the HomePod.
- If the song is playing, you will see the item "Available devices" under the playback display. Tap on it.
- Another menu is displayed, here you tap on "Additional devices (AirPlay and Bluetooth)", whereupon all devices appear that are available for streaming via AirPlay.
- You should also find your HomePod in this list. If you tap on it, Spotify will be played through the Apple speaker.
