In this practical tip, we will show you how to use the Audacity program to create an autotune effect. You also need a specific plugin for this.
Audacity and GSnap - Prepare the autotune effect
Install "GSnap" on your PC in addition to Audacity.
- Unzip "GSnap" and copy the DLL file contained there.
- Open the "Programs" folder on your hard drive and "Audacity" there. Insert the DLL file there in the plug-ins folder.

Open Audacity and record a soundtrack.
- Then mark the point in the recording that is to receive the autotune effect.
- Then go to "Effect" in the menu bar and select "GSnap".
- Enter the following settings: Minimum frequency 40 Hz, maximum frequency 2000 Hz, gate -80 db, Speed 1, Threshold 150 cents, Amount 100%, Attack 1 ms, Release 1 ms, Pitch bend 0 cents, Vibrato 0 cents, VB Speed 0.1 Hz and Callibrate 440 Hz
- In the keyboard on the left you have to mark the keys, depending on what suits your voice and the existing tone.
- Finally confirm the settings with "OK".
