Take application photos yourself: tips and tricks
You don't necessarily have to be a photographer for an application photo, but you can easily do it yourself. Read the best tips below.
This is how you get a good application photo
You don't have to add an application photo to apply for a new job, but a photo increases your chances of being invited to an interview. Take the application photo yourself, pay attention to the following points:
- Clothing: You do not need to wear a suit or otherwise particularly expensive clothing for the application photo. Avoid particularly bright colors or sweaters with hoods, eye-catching patterns or embellishments are also not recommended. Wear something simple, for example a shirt in which you feel comfortable and which matches the background of the photo.
- Background: A correct background determines a good or bad photo, so the selection must be well thought out. A bright, monochrome wall is ideal. As with clothing, the same applies to the wall: do without eye-catching colors and patterns. The ideal background is not particularly noticeable and highlights you in the foreground. If you do not have a wall in the matching colors, you can also use a light sheet that you can hang behind you.
- Position: Stand by the photo, do not sit on a chair or stool. Stay at least 30 to 50 centimeters from the background, the exact distance you have to find out in several attempts. Tip: Slightly tilt your upper body and look straight and friendly into the camera. Only the upper part of the upper body and your face must be visible in the photo, so do not take a complete picture of yourself.
- Light: The lighting conditions are crucial for a good photo. You can also use lights and lamps around the room to flash the camera. Pay attention to a natural effect with the light and avoid cold and very white light. If you take the photo on a bright day, you may not need to use additional light. Tip: Your face and upper body must be clearly visible, there should be no shadow.
- Take a picture: You can take the picture yourself with a tripod and the self-timer of the camera, but you have to act very quickly. It is better if you ask a second person to take the picture of you. In addition to the greater flexibility, you also have a second opinion and can implement tips directly. If you want to take the picture alone, a remote release is a practical aid.
- Cut out: If you send the application by post, you have to cut out the photo in the correct size. There is no standardized size, since the obligation for application photos is no longer available. The standard size is 6x4 centimeters. If you want the photo to be a little larger, you should pay attention to the aspect ratio. The height should not exceed ten centimeters.
