Applying for blind money: You need to know that
If you are blind or have severe visual impairment, you can apply for blind benefit. If the decision is positive, you will receive a monthly grant depending on the federal state.
Applying for a blind benefit: Requirements
In order for your application for blind money to be approved, you have to meet a few requirements. Otherwise it will be rejected.
- In order to receive blind benefit, you must either be blind or have severe visual impairment .
- Even if you are severely brain-damaged and therefore cannot see, you are entitled to blind benefit.
- In addition, you must have been blind or at least visually impaired for at least a year .
- You need medical evidence from your doctor. This will officially prove that you are blind.
- Definition of blindness : If you cannot see anything or have only two percent vision, you are considered blind.
- Definition of visual impairment : If you are not completely blind and have no more than five percent of your eyesight with both eyes, you are considered to be extremely visually impaired.
- It is also good to know that the blind benefit is independent of income .
Apply for blind money
You can submit the application very easily and quickly. As a rule, you already have the necessary evidence so that you only have to fill out the application.
- You can download the application for blind money on the respective page of your state. Most of the time, your municipality or city also offers applications to fill out online .
- Indicate in the form whether you would like to receive blind benefit or help for the visually impaired . In addition, you have to provide your personal data.
- You must also inform whether you live in a home or similar. This affects the grant. Be honest about it!
- You must also state whether you have requested further services or have already received them.
- You still have to attach various documents, these also depend on your information. In the application, however, you will find corresponding information and a list of the required documents .
- You can submit the application directly to your community or city in the social welfare office .
- Your application will be checked and you will then receive a notification . If the answer is positive, you will receive the money promptly.
Amount of benefits by federal state
The amount of blind money you can receive varies from state to state. In addition, in some countries it depends on the age of the applicant.
- Baden-Württemberg: From the age of 18 you are entitled to a maximum rate of 410 euros. The subsidy for minors is around 200 euros.
- Bavaria : In Bavaria you get the third highest blind allowance with 629 euros regardless of age.
- Berlin : In the capital you also get almost 600 euros from the age of 1.
- Brandenburg : Here you get almost 350 euros as an adult. Minors receive blind allowance depending on their age.
- Bremen : If you are 18 or older, you will get 435 euros. Under the age of 18 you receive € 217 a month.
- Hamburg : In Hamburg, regardless of age, every blind person receives a blind allowance of around 560 euros.
- Hessen : You get the second most money in Hessen. Adults get almost 636 euros, while minors get just over half with 370 euros.
- Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania : In Mecklenburg under 18 year olds get about 270 euros. As an adult, you receive 430 euros per month.
- Lower Saxony : The blind money you receive is 375 euros. In this state, the height is independent of age.
- North Rhine-Westphalia : There are even three graduations in this federal state. The blind benefit as a minor is 370 euros, as an adult it is almost 740 euros. However, if you are 60 or older, you will only receive 473 euros a month.
- Rhineland-Palatinate : As an adult you receive 410 euros blind money, as a minor it is exactly half.
- Saarland : If you are under the age of 18, you will receive almost 300 euros for blind people. As an adult, you will receive approximately 440 euros.
- Saxony : In Saxony there is the higher amount not from the 18th but from the 14th year of life. Up to the age of 14 you receive 260 euros per month, after that it is 350 euros.
- Saxony-Anhalt : The financial support for adults is 360 euros and for minors 250 euros.
- Schleswig-Holstein : As an adult you get 300 euros a month, when you are under 18 you get 200 euros.
- Thuringia : In Thuringia, regardless of your age, you receive € 400 a month as a financial allowance.
