The Android Device Manager can do that
Android Device Manager is the name of Google's new service, which should help you if you lose your smartphone. It enables you to locate, block and delete the data on your cell phone. Similar services from "Avast" or "Where's my Droid" already exist. But the Device Manager is the first central Android service.
Activate the Device Manager on your Android smartphone
Before you can use the online service, you need to activate the Android Device Manager on your mobile phone. To do this, go to:
- Settings -> Security -> Device Administrators
- Check "Android Device Manager".
Access to the Device Manager
To be able to access the Android Device Manager, you have to log in with your Google account using the following link. It must be the same Google account that you use on your smartphone.
How to access your cell phone when it is lost
If your smartphone is no longer in your possession, you can locate it, lock it ("Lock"), delete the data on it ("Erase") or let it ring ("Ring"). The bell function is also helpful if you simply put your android in the apartment. However, please note that your smartphone must be connected to the Internet for all functions.
- At the point where you read "Contacting your device ..." on the screenshot, the last registered location of your mobile phone is usually.
- If you click on "Ring" in your browser, your cell phone will ring at full volume until you press the power button. The smartphone rings a maximum of five minutes.
- With the lock function, you can put a new password on your phone so that a thief cannot unlock your android.
- If you have sensitive data on your smartphone, you can erase the entire device with "Erase".
The instructions refer to an HTC One with Android 4.2.2. But it also works with other devices.
