DuckDuckGo - the advantages of the alternative search engine
Since Tempora and Prism went through the media, the previously unknown search engine DuckDuckGo has come into conversation. Here you can find out what advantages the Google alternative offers you.
Search anonymously, find it straight away - the motto of the alternative search engine
The search engine DuckDuckGo pursues clear goals: search queries should remain anonymous, search results according to relevance appear instead of marketing measures. The search engine became known primarily as an "anonymous alternative" to Google. Overall, the search engine is characterized by four "unique selling points":
1. "We have countless extras" - goodies from DuckDuckGo
The extras include code generators for web design, current financial trends or a tool that creates random passwords for you.
2. "We don't follow you" - the search engine does not save any data
In the data protection regulations, the owner declares that DuckDuckGo does not store any data. The search engine thereby prevents user data from being passed on to third parties.
3. "We remove confusion" - DuckDuckGo shows little advertising
Compared to Google, there is relatively little advertising on DuckDuckGo. However, since the search engine has become more popular, the advertising scheme has also changed somewhat. In the meantime, advertisements for the competitor Google have even appeared (see screenshot). Nevertheless, the search results are largely free of sponsored links and advertising.
4. "We don't put you in a filter bubble" - the search engine doesn't type
Anyone who spends a long time on the Internet gets into a filter bubble. The more data circulates about them, the better site operators can show you exactly what you seem to be interested in. You can no longer reach topics that you do not deal with. Here is an example:
- You need a new notebook.
- Search for notebooks on Google - because you know the name, start searching for Dell branded devices.
- The more searches you start, the more advertising for Dell notebooks appears on Facebook, Google and other sites.
- If you have linked several search queries with the terms "Dell" and "Notebooks", Google will first show you devices from Dell even if you are only searching for "Notebooks".
- Google has virtually recognized you as a Dell lover - and is holding back search results and advertisements for other brands.
Since DuckDuckGo does not save any data, you can still access all information unfiltered - the search engine prevents you from being closed off from new topics: When you search for "notebooks" you will continue to get results for devices from all possible manufacturers.
