Email account from GMX and Web.de - the differences
Even if the freemail providers GMX and Web.de both belong to the 1 & 1 group, there are numerous differences between their email accounts. We have summarized the most important facts about both mail hosts here.
GMX or Web.de - these are the differences
In the past, Web.de was often left behind against GMX - today it has secretly become one of the strongest competitors: it combines calendar, text, table and calculation software, email and cloud in one. This is how web mail compares to GMX:
- Storage space: At Web.de you start with 1 GB and you can expand the storage volume to 10 GB with the webmail check. With GMX, you also have 1 GB of storage space at the beginning, but you can only expand it to 1.5 GB.
- Attachment: With Web.de and GMX you can send attachments with up to 20 MByte.
- Mobile use: Both at Web.de and GMX you can access your mailbox with iOS and Android apps free of charge and send emails. The website itself is also available for mobile devices.
- Signature: With both providers you can create a personal signature that is automatically attached to your email.
- Contacts: At Web.de and also at GMX you can create various contacts with names, email addresses, telephone numbers and addresses. So you always have your address book at hand.
- Mail search: Web.de offers you a full-text search, which also includes the individual mail content. GMX only searches for email addresses and subject.
- POP3 collection service: GMX and Web.de both offer to collect mails from other mailboxes. If you still have an account with another provider, the emails will be forwarded automatically.

- In total, you can create two GMX addresses (e.g. @ gmx.de) and 20 GMX FunDomain addresses (e.g. @ abwesend.de, @ partyheld.de, etc.) free of charge.
- GMX provides you with a further 10 GB of online storage for documents and images of all kinds.
Web.de - there are these extras
- Web.de also provides additional online storage in the amount of 10 GB in the freemail account.
- Your mail can be encrypted with a free certificate. Thanks to a digital signature, it is ensured that the e-mail has not been changed during the dispatch. However, the addressee's certificate is also required for encrypted delivery.
- Web.de has also integrated a small calendar in the free mail program that reminds you of your daily appointments.
- An online office is also integrated with which you can edit all common file formats online.
