Protect individual programs with a password - is that possible?
If you would like to protect individual programs with a password for security, we will show you how to do this here.
Protect programs with a password - how it works
With the free "Protect Exe" tool you can easily encrypt your programs.
- Download and unzip the "Protect Exe" freeware.
- Now select the EXE file of the desired program by clicking on the three dots.
- Enter your desired password in the "Password" field.
- Then click on "Crypt exe". The program can then only be started with the password.
- If you want to undo the changes, click the "Restore" button.
A paid alternative is the Program Protector, which works in a similar way.
Alternative: restrict access for individual programs
An easier method is to restrict access for certain programs to individual user accounts.
- Right-click on the program of your choice and switch to the "Security" tab.
- In the "Group or user names:" field you will see a list of all user names. To edit the access rights, click on the "Edit ..." button.
- In the next window, select the desired user name and set the rights by ticking the "Allow" or "Deny" box.
- With a click on "Apply" your settings are saved.
- Please note: Every user should have their own, individual password to avoid misuse.
In another practical tip, we will tell you how you can safely uninstall programs in Windows.
