Foxit Reader vs Adobe Reader: PDF tools compared
In our comparison "Foxit Reader vs. Adobe Reader" we present the two PDF tools and tell you which of the two is most worthwhile for you.
Classic PDF program: Adobe Reader
Adobe Reader (Version XI, 11.0.07) is a free program that allows you to do more than just view your PDF data:
- Editing: Adobe Reader gives you a few tools that you can use to edit your PDFs. This is how you insert comments, create your own text fields or sign the document with your name or initials. You can even mark graphics. You can use them to make a text clearer and draw attention to important passages.
- Convert: Adobe Reader can convert Word documents to PDF files and vice versa - but unfortunately not in the free version. You need a paid subscription for this feature.
- Features: The free version cannot offer many other features. With an existing Adobe account, you can still upload your PDFs to the cloud.
Edit PDF files: Foxit Reader
Foxit Reader (version 6.1.3) is also available free of charge on the Internet. With the program you can easily edit PDF documents:
- Editing: At first glance, you have a wider range of tools than with Adobe Reader. In addition to standard functions such as inserting text fields, marking text or the comment function, you can protect your PDFs with digital signatures.
- Convert: With the pure Foxit Reader, you can only convert PDFs into text documents. For extensive conversions you need the PDF Converter from Foxit. After all, you get a 30-day trial version here.
- Features: Even with the free version of Foxit, you don't have many features at your disposal. You can still share your PDF files on Facebook or Evernote using the "Share" option. The program also reads the PDF files to you. But this only works well if your PDF is in English.
Conclusion: two good PDF tools with the same weaknesses
Ultimately, both PDF programs do not take much and convince with good basic functions:
- You can edit your PDFs quickly and easily with both Adobe and Foxit Reader. You can also easily insert digital signatures.
- Converting does not work with either program. With Foxit Reader you can save your PDF as a text file, but nothing more works here either.
- The two programs also offer additional features in the free version. For example, a better cloud upload would have been desirable. Nevertheless, both tools are certainly sufficient for everyday use.
