Reset Galaxy Note 4: hard and soft reset
If your Samsung Galaxy Note 4 no longer works, you can reset the device with a hard or soft reset. In this guide, we explain which differences the two reset types bring and when you should use which.
Perform hard and soft reset on the Galaxy Note 4
A soft reset helps with minor errors; the smartphone is only restarted. Simply hold the power button down for a few seconds. A hard reset deletes all content and settings:
- Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely and connect it to the power.
- Now hold down the "Volume Up" key, the Home button and the Power key for a few seconds.
- If the smartphone vibrates, release all buttons except for the volume up button.
- As soon as the display shows something, release the last button and select the option "wipe data / factory reset".
- You can now move up and down using the volume buttons and select the individual items using the power button.
- If you confirm the process with "Yes - delete all user data", all data on your Galaxy Note 4 will be deleted.
- If you select the "Reboot system now" option after a few minutes, you can set up the smartphone again.
