Gimp: Use Script-Fu - a guide
You can use Script-Fu to run scripts in the Gimp image editor. In this practical tip, we explain how to use Script-Fu in Gimp.
Gimp: How to use Script-Fu
- To automate processes in Gimp, you can write and apply scripts. To do this, use the integrated Script-Fu tool. You can find the tool in Gimp under "Filters"> "Script-Fu".
- Then enter the commands into the console. You can also find this in the path mentioned above.
- All commands that you can use in Script-Fu can be found in the "Procedure Browser", which you can open under "Help".
- All commands are surrounded by brackets in the console. Comments are represented by a semicolon.
- A simple command would be, for example, "(gimp-message“ This is GIMP! ”)". This command creates a message box with the text "This is GIMP!".
Use scripts under Script-Fu in Gimp
In order to be able to use these scripts in Gimp, further steps are necessary:
- Open the Windows editor and paste the commands from the console into the editor.
- Save this file as an .scm file by selecting the "All files" option under "Save as" in the "Save" dialog.
- Then put this file in Gimp's "Scripts" directory. You will find the directory under "share \ gimp \ 2.0 \ scripts" in the Gimp directory.
- Then in Gimp click on "Filter"> "Script-Fu"> "Refresh scripts" to be able to use the scripts.
- Tip: In the "Scripts" directory of Gimp you will find further example scripts with which you can experiment first.
