Google Drive: expand storage space - how it works
Google Drive already provides you with 15 GB of storage space for free use. You can expand it by purchasing additional storage space. You can find out how this works in this practical tip.
More space in Google Drive
In contrast to the competitor Dropbox, Google does not offer a system in which you can earn free storage through various actions such as recruiting new members (read more tips on this here). The start capacity of the Google Drive Cloud is significantly higher at 15 gigabytes. The storage space will then be used for Google Drive, G-Mail and Google+ Photos at the same time.
Buy storage space on Google Drive
It is still possible to buy additional storage space for a monthly fee. The subscription is then paid in advance every month and can be canceled at any time. The price list is currently structured as follows:
- 15 GB - free of charge
- 100 GB - $ 4.99 per month
- 200 GB - $ 9.99 per month
- 400 GB - $ 19.99 monthly
- 1 TB - $ 49.99 monthly
- 2 TB - $ 99.99 monthly
- 4 TB - $ 199.99 per month
- 8 TB - $ 399.99 monthly
- 16 TB - $ 799.99 per month
- All prices are without taxes, so the final amount may be a little higher depending on the country.
How to buy additional space on Google
- To do this, go to the Google Drive Storage page. If you haven't already, sign in with your Google Account.
- On this page you can see your current cloud storage space and how much of it is used.
- The available subscriptions are listed on the right. If you have chosen one of these, click on "Select".
- Confirm with "Pay". You will then be directed to Google Wallet, where you can choose your payment method.
- Only a credit card payment is possible for the Google Drive subscription. Select an already linked credit card or add a new one and then confirm with "Buy".
Storage space through Google promotions
At irregular intervals there are also Google promotions where you can get additional Drive storage space for free. This was most recently the case with the introduction of the new "Quick Office" for Android and iOS. Here you should keep your eyes open and, if necessary, strike quickly when Google again puts an offer online.
If you want to get more cloud storage in another way, you can also combine several services. You can find out how this works in this practical tip.
