Every cell phone or smartphone has an IMEI number that can be used to clearly identify it. You need this, for example, to take out cell phone insurance. On Android there are several options to find out the number.
Query IMEI number via the Android settings
The IMEI number is the so-called "International Mobile Equipment Identity" serial number. This consists of 15 digits and is used to uniquely identify every cell phone worldwide. On Android you can find out the number very easily:
- To do this, go to the settings of your smartphone.
- At the bottom, select the menu item "About the phone" and then "Status".
- In addition to other important data, the list also contains the IMEI number.
Find out the number using the tax code
The IMEI number can also be found using a key combination.
- To do this, go to the phone app on your smartphone.
- Enter the code * # 06 # here. The IMEI number is then automatically displayed.
Search outside on the smartphone
If your smartphone cannot be switched on, you can also find the number on the housing of the device.
- In most cases it is on a sticker under the battery.
- If your cell phone has a removable SIM card holder, the IMEI is usually printed on it.
You need the IMEI number for this
As mentioned at the beginning, a telephone can be clearly identified via the IMEI.
- If your cell phone is stolen, it is therefore helpful if you can tell the police about the IMEI when you report it. In this way, you can also prove that you are the owner if the device reappears later.
- In special cases, it is also possible for the network operator to locate a cell phone based on the IMEI or to block it for radio communication. The device can then no longer be used, even if a new SIM card is inserted.
