Disable internal PC speakers in Windows
You can easily deactivate the internal PC speaker in Windows. The integrated sound tool provides the familiar beeps during Windows start-up or in the event of errors, but these are usually more annoying than useful. This practical tip shows you how to switch off the annoying squeak during operation.
Shut down internal loudspeakers using the registry entry
On all Windows systems you can switch off the PC speaker equally with a simple movement:
- In Windows XP / Vista / 7, click on "Start" or the Windows symbol and then "Run". In Windows 8, move the mouse pointer to the top right corner and enter "Run" in the search mask.
- Then type "regedit" in the search field. Select the items "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"> "Control Panel"> "Sound".
- Double-click the "Beep" entry and change the content in the "Value" field to "no". After a restart, the internal speaker is deactivated.
