iPhone backup: forgot password - you can do that
If you forget the password for your iPhone backup, you cannot restore from the backup. We'll show you how to solve the problem.
Read password for iPhone backup
If you created the backup under Windows, the backup without the password is unfortunately useless. The password can only be read out under Mac OS. In this case, backup via iCloud may help.
- Open the "Utilities" under "Programs". There you will find the "Keychain Access".
- If you search for "iPhone Backup" in the top right, all backups will be displayed here.
- Activate the "Show password" option and confirm the process with your user password.
- The password will then be displayed. With this you can reopen your iPhone backup.
- Note: If there are several backups, you can recognize them by the UDID. You can find out where to find the UDID from your iPhone in the next paragraph.
iTunes: Find UDID for iPhone backup
- Start iTunes and connect your iPhone to your Mac or MacBook using the USB cable.
- Wait a moment for the device to be recognized, then select it in iTunes.
- In the overview you will find both the capacity and your own phone number.
- Click on the category below until the "UDID" is displayed.
