iPhoto cannot open this library - what to do?
If you get the error "iPhoto cannot open this library", don't worry. We show you here what you can do about the error message.
iPhoto library cannot be opened - so you can save pictures and photos
With a little trick you can quickly fix the iPhoto error:
- Open the "Finder" and enter "iPhoto" in the search field.
- Press and hold the [CMD] and [Alt] keys and start iPhoto.
- A new window is opening up. Here you can first "repair access rights".
- Click on "Repair" to start the process.
- If that did not help, select the "Repair database" option. This also fixes faulty databases in iPhoto.
Restore media library under iPhoto via time machine
If the problem persists, you can restore your library via Time Machine:
- Restart the Mac and hold down the [cmd] and [R] keys during startup.
- After a short time, a window called "Time Machine" opens.
- Select the option "Restore from Time Machine backup" and confirm this step.
- Wait for the process to complete. After that, iPhoto should work properly again.
As soon as iPhoto reopens your library, you can hide individual pictures or create a photo book. This guide is based on iPhoto 9.5 on Mac OS X.
