In order to be able to join an existing home network group, you need the corresponding password. This is shown to the creator of the home network group when setting up. If the password was not noted down, it can be called up again by a homegroup member.
Find the homegroup password on Windows 7, 8, and 10
- Open the Control Panel and enter "HomeGroup" in the search box at the top right. Note that the computer used must be a member of the home network.
- Then select the "Home Network Group" entry.
- Under the item "Additional homegroup actions" you will find the option "Show or print password for the homegroup".
- Now the password for the home network group in your network is displayed.
- Enter this if you want to join the homegroup with the other computer.
From Windows 10 (version 1803) no more home network groups
If you have updated your system to Windows 10 version 1803, you can no longer create home network groups.
- The function has been removed from Windows. Neither can you leave or link such a group.
- Existing homegroups are also no longer displayed in Explorer. In addition, you can no longer share new files or printers with it.
- However, you can still access printers that have already been shared. You can also find shared folders.
- You can find the folders in Explorer by entering "\\ homePC \ SharedFolderName" in the search field of the Explorer.
