Stream local files to Chromecast using Google Chrome
You can also stream local files to your Chromecast Stick using the Google Chrome browser. You can find out what you need to do in this practical tip.
Update: Stream files to Chromecast using Google Chrome
In order to send local files from Google Chrome to the Chromecast, the extension "Google Cast" has always been necessary (see next paragraph). Now you can also activate the function directly in Chrome:
- Open a new tab and enter the following command: "chrome: // flags / # enable-media-router".
- The "Activate Media Router" item is highlighted in yellow above. Click the "Activate" link here.
- If you click on the "Restart" button below, the function is activated and is ready for use.
- Now follow the further steps in the instructions below. The Google Cast extension is no longer required.
Stream local files using Google Chrome
To send your files to the TV via Google Chrome, you need the "Google Cast" addon.
- Install the free extension and start the Google browser.
- Click on the new network symbol in the top right. The first menu item should correspond to the name of your Chromecast (see picture). If not, check your computer’s connection to the Chromecast.
- Now drag the desired files from "Windows Explorer" or "Finder" into your browser. Alternatively, you can import the videos via "File"> "Open file". If Google Chrome supports the file format, a tab for audio or video playback appears.
- Click the addon icon again and select your Chromecast. This will stream the current tab to your Chromecast. Tip: Switch off the sound of your computer so that the two media tracks do not run asynchronously.
If the video jerks on your TV, you can adjust the streaming quality.
