Mac OS X: hide files and folders on desktop
You can also hide them so that the desktop does not reveal all files and folders under Mac OS X. So nobody sees the chaos on your desk.
Mac OS X - hide files on desktop
A tidy desk looks more professional in presentations. All files and folders can be hidden so that you can still save files and folders on the desk.
- Open Spotlight and type "Terminal" to open the input console.
- First enter the command "defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool false" (without quotation marks) and confirm with the Enter key.
- Now you can enter "killall -SIGHUP Finder" and restart the Finder, the changes will take effect.
- Files or folders are no longer displayed on the desktop.
Display Mac OS X files and folders on the desktop again
To display your files on your desk again, you have to do the following:
- Enter the command "defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop -bool true" (without quotes).
- Then you have to restart the Finder with the command "killall -SIGHUP Finder".
