Mac OS X El Capitan: Edit photos in the Photo app
With Mac OS X El Capitan, Apple offers for the first time the option to edit photos directly in the Photo app. In this practical tip, we explain what you need and how to do it.
Mac OS X: Photo editing with the photo app
The photo app has long offered the option of easily changing your pictures with integrated tools. For example, you can rotate and crop your photos, have them automatically optimized, or put a filter over your photos.
- To display the image editing tools, select a photo and navigate to "Image -> Show Tool List".
- In the right margin you will see the standard tools and can use them to improve your photos.
El Capita allows extensions
With the photo app you can get even more out of your pictures: Apple allows extensions with which you can edit your photos in much more detail.
- There are numerous extensions available in the app store that can be used with the photo app. There are cheap apps like BeFunky Express for currently 4.99 euros. More extensive plugins like Tonality already cost 17.99 euros.
- A plugin can be easily integrated into the photo app: after installation, you can activate the extension under "System Settings -> Extensions -> Photos".
Edit photos in the photo app - how it works
If you have activated a corresponding plugin, you can now edit your photos directly in the Photo app.
- Double-click an image to activate it. Now "Edit" appears in the top right. With one click, the editing tools of the plugin are now available.
