Google Sheets can also translate: With the formula = googletranslate you can translate words and sentences in real time. We will introduce you to the function and show which languages have been supported so far.
= googletranslate: How to translate with Google Sheets
The formula = googletranslate lets you translate in real time. You only need the country code for this. Below we give you an overview of the supported languages.
- The formula looks like this: = googletranslate (selection field or text; source language; target language)
- Selection field : Enter the desired cell that you want to translate here.
- Text : Alternatively, you can also directly enter the desired text.
- Source language : Enter the abbreviation of the language to be translated here.
- Target language : Enter the abbreviation of the language into which you want to have translated.
Google Sheets: These languages are supported
The formula = googletranslate supports all languages that you can also select in the Google translator. There are currently over 100 different ones: from French or Russian to Japanese to Welsh or Zulu. With this trick you can find the appropriate abbreviation for the individual languages.
- Open the Google translator in the browser with translate.google.com.
- In addition to the proposed languages, there is an arrow pointing down on the right. If you click on it, an overview of all available languages opens. Now select the desired language.
- In the URL that you see in your address line, you will now find the appropriate abbreviation (see picture).
- In our example, we translate from Croatian to German. At the end of the URL you will find the respective abbreviations, hr (Croatian) and de (German).
