Take night shots with your smartphone - tips
Quickly capture the breathtaking moment with your smartphone at night - we will show you the best tips for night shots with your smartphone.
Differentiate between night scenes: portrait or landscape
Before you take a picture of a subject, you should think about what you are photographing. You have to do it differently with nightly landscapes than with portraits. This becomes even more difficult if you combine the two.
- When taking portraits at a late hour, you should consider taking an external light source with you, as the built-in LED flashes usually leave something to be desired.
- When taking pictures of the landscape at night, it is important to avoid having a disturbing light source around you that may reflect particles in the air. So also turn off the built-in flash.
Works wonders for night shots: the HDR function
An HDR image has a particularly large dynamic range in that it combines the various brightness ranges in one image with the help of photos taken in succession.
- If your smartphone already has the HDR function integrated, you only need to activate it. You can find the function under Mode or in the Settings. This function has been available on the iPhone since iPhone 4.
- If you cannot find the function on your smartphone, you can "retrofit" it with an app, for example with the free HDR camera.
- In most cases, the HDR function is only recommended for objects that do not move. This is because the camera takes three photos in a row and combines them.
If available: use night mode
Another option is the integrated night mode, which many smartphones now have to choose from.
- If you find the night mode on your smartphone, try it out. It is important, however, that you keep your hand extremely calm.
- Alternatively, you can also use a tripod for your smartphone to make night shots even better. You can even build this yourself for your iPhone almost free of charge.
