It's easy to set up your Netgear N300 router. We will show you how this works and what you have to watch out for.
How to connect the router
Before you start the setup, you should remember that this router does not have a DSL modem or cable modem. If you have a DSL connection or cable connection, you must also obtain a separate DSL modem or cable modem. Some large residential complexes and student dormitories have a central modem for all apartments, so this router can be connected directly to the RJ-45 network connection of the apartment (if available). In this case, no additional modem is necessary.
Proceed as follows to set up the router:
- Connect the Netgear router (yellow connector) to the modem or the RJ-45 socket using a LAN cable.
- Connect the power supply to the router and wait approx. 2 minutes until the green WLAN LED lights up.
- Now connect your computer to the router using a LAN cable.
- Then open an internet browser and enter "//routerlogin.net" in the address bar.
- The wizard will now guide you through the setup. Important: For the setup you have to have the login data received from the internet provider ready.
How to set up the Netgear router
Once you have successfully called up the wizard, you can start setting up. To do this, proceed as described below:
- Enter the password for logging into the router, which is located on the back of the router.
- Find your provider access data. These usually consist of a user ID and a password.
- If necessary, select your provider and then enter the provider access data in the appropriate fields.
- By clicking on "Test" you can have the entered data and the internet connection checked.
- If the internet connection is set up successfully, you can make further settings via the main menu.
- Tip: Change the WiFi password and name via the router's main menu. In this way you increase security and simplify the registration of additional devices in the WLAN.
