Notebook: Touchpad deactivated - what to do?
The wrong setting or key combination - and the touchpad is deactivated on your notebook. We show you how you can use the hardware again.
Activate the touchpad using a key combination
- Sometimes the touchpad is accidentally deactivated if you press the wrong function key. Look for a touchpad symbol in the top row of your notebook keyboard (for Samsung Ultrabooks, for example, this is F5). The symbol may also be crossed out.
- If you press the button, the touchpad is reactivated. You may have to hold down the "Fn" key at the same time.
- If there is no success or if there is no such key on your keyboard, you can also follow the instructions in the next paragraph.
Touchpad disabled on the laptop
So that you can reactivate the touchpad as quickly and easily as possible, we recommend connecting a mouse to the notebook via USB. In an emergency, you can also click through the computer using the keyboard.
- Open the Control Panel and click on the "Hardware and Sound" category.
- At the top you will see the blue link "Mouse" under the category "Devices and Printers".
- Under the "Device settings" tab you will find your touchpad in the "Devices" table. Select this and press the "Activate" button.
- Then close the window by clicking "OK".
