Reset OneDrive - how it works
OneDrive has been firmly anchored in the operating system since Windows 8. If the memory is not working properly, you can reset OneDrive. However, since it is not a separate program, this cannot be done directly. You need an additional tool.
Reset OneDrive with the diagnostic tool
Microsoft provides a small diagnostic tool for problems with OneDrive that does the resetting for you.
- Download the tool from Microsoft and open it with a double click.
- Start the diagnosis by clicking on "Next" and decide in the next step whether you want to send the information to Microsoft. This is only for the improvement of OneDrive and is not necessary for the reset.
- Select "Reset OneDrive" and close the troubleshooter in the next step.
Reset OneDrive manually
If the diagnostic tool doesn't work, you can also reset OneDrive manually. You can use Windows PowerShell for this.
- Open the search function with [Win] + [Q] and enter "powershell".
- Right click on the result and select "Run as administrator".
- Exit OneDrive by typing "SkyDrive.exe / shutdown" and pressing Enter.
- Reset works with "SkyDrive.exe / reset".
- Then open OneDrive again with "SkyDrive.exe" and restart the PC.
