Ryanair: laptop and tablet in hand luggage - what to consider?
Laptops and tablets are often taboo or even forbidden in Ryanair's hand luggage. We'll get rid of all rumors here and tell you if you can use your laptop / tablet on your next flight.
Laptops and tablets at Ryanair - allowed in hand luggage?
Although there is always discussion about a ban on electronic devices in hand luggage, there is not (yet) one. So you can safely take your electronic devices into the cabin as long as your hand luggage does not exceed the maximum weight or a certain size. The following rules apply to hand luggage on Ryanair flights:
- Your hand luggage may not weigh more than 10 kg.
- The dimensions of your hand luggage must not exceed 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.
- In addition to your hand luggage, you can take another small bag (35 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm) with you.
When can I use my laptop or tablet while flying?
Basically, you can use your laptop or tablet during the flight, as long as your device does not weigh more than a kilo. This is particularly pleasant on long flights, as this is an ideal way to pass the time or do some work. However, you have to follow some rules to avoid problems with the flight crew.
- The transmission function of all electronic devices must be switched off during the entire flight. For this purpose, almost all devices have a so-called flight mode. If there is no flight mode, the device must be switched off completely.
- Switch on flight mode on the laptop
- Airplane mode on the iPad and iPhone / Airplane mode on the Android tablet and smartphone
- For safety reasons, the devices must be stowed in hand luggage and switched off while driving on the taxiway, taking off and landing the aircraft. As soon as the light for the belt goes out, you can also take your device out again.
- Note: In individual cases, the captain can order that electronic devices be switched off and stowed. However, this rarely happens.
