Set up Sat-IP: devices, tips & tricks
With Sat-IP you can watch TV on your home network. In this article we show him which devices are suitable for this and how to set them up.
Sat IP - what is it?
- Sat-IP is a technique that allows you to watch multiple devices on the home network at the same time. However, the end devices, such as a television or smartphone, must support the Sat-IP protocol.
- To do this, you need a satellite IP server. There are satellite dish in which this is already integrated.
- The satellite IP server then sends the channel you want to watch over your home network. Of course, it is also possible to watch TV via several devices at the same time.
Devices for satellite IP
- The "Telestar Digibit R1" is an inexpensive satellite IP server. You can get it from Amazon for a good 120 euros. The server can distribute four freely receivable satellite signals simultaneously in the network.
- Another alternative is the "Triax TSS 400 SAT> IP Converter" for just under 170 euros. It can also project over four channels at the same time.
- If you don't have a suitable end device, you can also use a receiver. The "Telestar Digibit B1 Sat-IP" receiver costs just under 80 euros on Amazon.
- There are also HDMI dongles that support Sat IP. The "Schwaiger DSR51IP Full HDTV Media Player / Receiver" costs just under 100 euros on Amazon. The great advantage of such devices: They take up little space and are inconspicuously plugged into the HDMI socket on your TV.
Set up Sat IP - tips & tricks
- First check whether you have Sat-IP-enabled devices. Older devices usually do not support the relatively young technology.
- When setting up your satellite IP server, you should make sure that your WLAN router does not send the data packets in multicast mode if several recipients request the same channel from the server. Because the transfer rate drops to around 6 MB / it - not enough for HD programs.
- It is also important that your network has enough internal transmission bandwidth. This is especially important when watching several programs at the same time.
- If you want to watch TV with several devices at the same time, you should also make sure that the satellite IP server also supports this. All servers can send at least two channels at the same time, but that might not be enough. So it is best to think about which Sat IP server suits you best before buying.
