Activate Silverlight - this is how it works in all browsers
In this practical tip, we explain how you can activate Silverlight. We go into both Chrome and Firefox as well as Internet Explorer.
Install Silverlight in all browsers
Before you can activate Silverlight, you have to install the program.
- Download the latest version of Silverlight from CHIP.
- Then unzip the downloaded file and run the EXE file it contains.
- Confirm the installation via "Install now".
- In the installation dialog, click the "Next" button.
- Silverlight is now successfully installed in all browsers.
Activate Silverlight in Firefox
If Silverlight was not automatically activated in Firefox, you can also switch on the plugin manually after installation.
- Click on "Tools" in the Firefox menu bar and then on "Add-ons".
- Left click on plugins and change the setting for the Silverlight plugin to "Always activate".
Activate Silverlight in Internet Explorer
The plugin can also be activated manually in Internet Explorer.
- Click on the gear icon in the top right of the browser and select "Manage add-ons".
- Click on "All Add-ons" in the drop-down menu under "Show".
- In the right display click on "Microsoft Silverlight" and then on the "Activate" button.
Activate Silverlight in Chrome
To activate Silverlight in Chrome, follow the steps below.
- Copy the following line into the URL bar of the Chrome browser: "chrome: // settings / contentExceptions # plugins" (without quotation marks).
- Here click on "Done".
- Then copy this line into the URL bar of the Chrome browser: "chrome: // flags / # enable-npapi".
- There, click on "Activate" under "Activate NPAPI".
