Sky receiver does not recognize hard drive - what to do?
To be able to record programs from your Sky receiver, you need a hard drive. If the receiver does not recognize the hard disk, there are many reasons for this. In this practical tip you will learn what you can do in the event of hard disk problems.
Hard disk is not recognized by Sky Receiver - you can do that
- Make sure the hard drive is properly connected to the receiver and all cables are properly seated.
- The cables must not show any defects or breaks. If this is the case, you should replace them as soon as possible.
- In some cases the receiver needs an update so that the hard disk is recognized correctly. Therefore, connect the receiver to the Internet via LAN. You can see how that works in another article and in the video below. Then press the [Menu] button on the remote control and select "System". There you can search for updates under "Update software".
- In many cases it is also due to a defective cable that supplies the hard drive with data and power.
- Since Sky is already aware of this problem, simply contact Sky Customer Service. You can then be provided with a new hard drive and cable.
- Alternatively, you can try disconnecting the receiver from the power supply for about 10 seconds. If the hard drive is still not recognized afterwards, contact Sky customer service.
A reset of the receiver may also help. We will show you how this works in the next practical tip.
