Skype: Privacy settings for the apps
You have to make the data protection settings for yourself in the Skype apps in order not to reveal everything about yourself. Otherwise, for example, you will be suggested to other users as a contact, displayed as "present" or share your location with the Bing search engine. Here we show you where you can make the data protection settings.
Skype apps for mobile phones and tablets: optimize data protection
- The privacy settings are not easy to find in the Skype apps. You have to tap your profile picture in the app.
- Then tap the gear in the upper right corner.
- Now swipe all the way down: The fourth last menu item is "Data protection".
- For the best possible data protection, deactivate all functions now.
- The changes are effective immediately, you do not have to confirm them again.
Skype data protection for the Windows app
- Unfortunately, you can only make very few data protection settings in the Windows app. You can also find this here via your profile picture.
- Then select "Settings" and scroll down to the entry "Privacy".
- If you have stored a telephone number with Skype, you can deactivate the search via telephone number. So you cannot be found by strangers via your phone number.
- If you scroll down to the "Logging" entry, you can switch off that your Skype activities are logged. This is actually only intended for error and diagnostic reports. However, it is unclear what exactly Skype records and what the data is actually used for.
- Third, in the next section, "Contacts", you should turn off Skype from searching your address book.
On the next page we show how you can also hide or delete your name from Skye.
