Connect the dishwasher correctly - how it works
Connecting a dishwasher is not magic. Only a few steps are required until the practical helper is ready for use. We explain step by step how to proceed.
Preparation: supply and waste water connection for dishwasher available?
First you have to check whether there is already a water supply and waste water connection for a dishwasher. These should be under the sink.
- In modern kitchens, the drain connection is located on the siphon, i.e. on the drain pipe of the sink. An outgoing connection should be visible before the rounding. If this is not the case, you can buy a dishwasher-compatible siphon at a hardware store.
- Installation of the new drain pipe is quick: unscrew the old pipe at both ends and pour the water inside into a bucket. Then attach the new, dishwasher-safe tube.
- The water inlet should be shut off. If there is a free water inlet under or near your sink, you can connect your machine there. If not, you need an additional tap. You can get a so-called double tap at the hardware store.
- Before installing the tap, close the main water inlet. This is usually located near the water meter. Now you can either replace the new tap with the old one or screw it onto the existing connection. Use a pipe pump pliers and cover the valve with a cloth so as not to damage it.
- Make sure that the new tap is closed. Then turn the main water pipe back on. Check whether the new tap is tight. If not, retighten all connections.
Step 1: Connect the sewage pipe of the dishwasher
Once all the preparations are done, the rest is a breeze. First connect the sewage pipe.
- To do this, pull out the stopper on the drain on the siphon or unscrew the cap.
- Then connect the drain pipe of the dishwasher and tighten the cap again. If the pipe does not stop, a pipe clamp will help you.
Step 2: Connect the dishwasher's inflow line correctly
Now connect the inflow line to the valve that has just been installed or already exists.
- Screw the inlet firmly to the tap using a pipe pump pliers or a suitable spanner and turn it on.
- If water escapes, you must tighten the screw on the inlet even more.
- It should absolutely be possible to shut off both taps separately. So you can still use your sink if the dishwasher is defective - and vice versa.
Step 3: connect power and check connections
Finally, connect your dishwasher to the power.
- All you need is a standard 230 volt socket.
- Switch on the dishwasher and start any program. Check that all connections are tight.
- If water should escape somewhere, switch off the machine and retighten the relevant connection.
