Solve error 138 in Steam - Here's how
- First, deactivate your anti-virus software. McAfee software in particular has caused problems with Steam in the past.
- Deactivating the firewall can also help. Briefly switch off the protection and check whether the error has been rectified. If this is the case, we will show you in the next paragraph how you can get rid of the problem permanently.

Error code 138: firewall blocks steam
- Open the Control Panel and select the "Windows Firewall" under the "System and Security" category.
- Now click on the option "Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall" on the left.
- Click on the "Change Settings" button at the top right and search for the process "GameOverlayUI.exe".
- Check both boxes to the right of the process and "Steam" and "Steam Web Helper".
- Close the window with "OK" and then restart your computer.
