Supergirl: first trailer of the new comic book adaptation
Supergirl himself is supposed to clean up properly in the current hype of comic book films and series. A first trailer finally shows what Superman's cousin can expect at the beginning of her career and that everyday superheroes don't always have to be dark.
No bird, no plane, no man: first Supergirl trailer released
CBS donates a full six minutes to introduce Superman's lesser-known cousin Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist, known from Glee) on the way to her own TV series.
- The trailer shows a compilation of Kara's change from a more or less normal person with normal problems and superhuman abilities to the heroine Supergirl.
- Like Superman, she is one of the few survivors of a distant planet and has incredible abilities on Earth, but she is not yet using it for the good.
While Superman is known worldwide in this world - similar to ours - and has thus created certain expectations, Kara is still a blank slate at the beginning of the series. Superheroes and villains are no longer a secret and threats to humanity are literally everyday life, which creates completely new starting problems for a young heroine. In addition, as a young adult, she has to find her place in the world for herself and her alter ego outside of the superhero role.
Supergirl and the everyday problems of a young superhero
The trailer combines all of this: from the trip to earth to the assistant job in a large editorial office and dating problems to the doubts whether being "normal" was really the right decision.
- The charming, idiotic appearance of Kara is reminiscent of Ally McBeal or "The Devil Wears Prada" and is therefore not well received by all super fans.
- But Supergirl herself is not satisfied with a romantic comedy in the trailer and discovers her true self through a first heroic deed.
Kara's Origin story contains pretty much everything that is expected from new superheroes:
- Problems controlling their own superpowers, the need to show themselves to the world, conflicts with critical military personnel and concentrated action in the fight against malicious beings.
- Even in the trailer, the series adheres to the comic template more or less, but always has less noticeable references in its luggage and triggers new discussions - for example about the name, the costume, and of course the cape.
Experienced producers for supergirl
This is probably due not least to the experience of the production team with superhero series.
- Director Glen Winter and various authors have worked on both Arrow and The Flash. Both are successful series, which are also based on DC comics, and have laid the foundation for the production of Supergirl.
- After successful production of the pilot episode, work is now also underway on the complete first season. Supergirl is scheduled to fly across the screen in November 2015. Until then, the six minutes of the first trailer must suffice as a foretaste.
If you need an alternative series to bridge the waiting time for the new action hero series, we will show you how you can legally stream The Flash.
