Switch from Mac to Windows - so take your data with you
If you want to switch from Mac OS to Windows, you can simply take your data with you. We show you how to transfer your data to a Windows computer without damage.
Switch from MacOS to Windows - so take your data with you
Follow these steps to take your files with you when you switch from Mac OS to Windows:
- First deactivate the wireless network connection (WLAN) on both devices so that there is no confusion.
- Then connect the PC and Mac with a LAN cable.
- Now you need your Mac's IP address. You can find this out via the system settings - note them down (see picture).
- Now add the folders you want to transfer on the Mac in the system settings under "Sharing". Place a checkmark under "Options" in "Share files and folders via SMB (Windows)".
- Now switch to your Windows PC. Open Windows Explorer there and enter the IP of the Mac in the address bar at the top, starting with a double backslash (example: \\ 123.45.678).
- After you have logged in with your login data, you can transfer the desired files and folders to your Windows PC.
