Smartphone: This is what the characters E, H and G mean
The characters E, H and G in the status bar of your smartphone show you which network standard your smartphone is currently using. If you surf the Internet with your mobile phone, you have a faster or slower connection depending on the symbol:
- G stands for GPRS, the slowest and oldest network standard.
- E is the abbreviation for EDGE. This is a little faster than GPRS, but still in the old network standard.
- 3G means that you are in the UMTS network. UMTS is again a bit faster than EDGE.
- H stands for HSDPA and is the faster successor to 3G. An even brisker extension of H is H +.
- The connection with the 4G standard is even faster. Most modern smartphones support LTE speed.
- The fastest network that has recently become available is the 5G symbol.
